Provisional DeBloatOptimization list of Chris's YouTube Tutorials,

Post 1 Chris is using standard stuff, both at user and advanced Admin level, and third party stuff and scripts from other people. None of his own Toools or skripts or utilitis yet.

In the first couple of videos, Chris still is getting lots of views , but they are a bit put of date, but he has reorganised them a few times and got a lot of links a bit messed up, as generally his early stuff is a bit chaotically organised. ( Most of his stuff is in a bit of a chaotic mess, as typical with ther nicest and best geniuses, at least those that are also nice guys. ( Me and Einstein are a couple of other examples , btw. ) )

Chris is mostly talking abnout someone elses power shell script, the Richard Newton debloat skript.
Download the .zip file on the main page of Richard Newton at Github and extract the .zip file to your desired location. Once extracted, note the location: Example, I used a USB at port D , which had a folder Temp Opt with sub folder GitHub which I put the extracted folder in, so my path to note was: D:\Temp Opt\GitHub then open PowerShell (or PowerShell ISE) as an Administrator. You then give code lines somethoing like this

dir ( using dir is not necessary, but is helpful to check that you are where your file is, since dir will cause it and anything else there to be listed )

A few things arte duplicated in those last videos. For example the Script from Richard Newton comes up a lot, as does O&O Shutup10. Some setting adjustments are mentioned a few times, not always done in the same way.
He has changed slightly a few of his ideas and opinions, some of which is reflected in him changing some things. One example , I think, is that he is more inclined to emphasize not blocking the important security related updates. I expect he would not recommend the Sordum which he talked about in the first of the links that you gave,

This project was using many of the aspects of other Debloat scripts, but combined system admin scripts with it to configure workstations at businesses. Also is added Chocolatey package manager to the script for easy program installations.

UI Tweaks
Windows 10’s user interface is a mess and has too many notifications. This removes the Action Center, LockScreen, Sticky Keys, Task View, Expands File Transfer details by default, Show all tray icons, and various other tweaks.
Application Tweaks
This script will keep the core of Microsoft Office, but most other Microsoft products that are sideloaded are removed. OneDrive is a big one that some use, so if you want that functionality check the customization section. Most other features removed aren’t used, like Internet Explorer and Work Folders.
Customization
I encourage people to fork this project and comment out things they don’t like! Here are a list of normal things people change:
• Uninstalling OneDrive (This is on in my script)
• Installing Adobe, Chocolatey, Notepad++, MPC-HC, and 7-Zip

_ 1 In your current ps1 file is all the $ Bloatware = { stuff ……}
One of the things there is
"Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub"
Does that mean you are somehow stopping, deleting, removing or de installing or otherwise messing with Microsoft Office?
I thought I noticed on a previous video that you removed that line because you did not want to remove Microsoft Office.
I certainly don’t want to remove Microsoft Office. - I expect a lot of people would not want Microsoft Office removed. ( For one thing MS Office from 2013 is getting progressively worse, and many people go back to their stable MS Office 2010 and lower. Like me they have a valid licence and the original DVD, but Microsoft only let you re install it a few times, after which the valid key is not accepted, and you can forget trying to talk to Microsoft about it. So it could really piss some people off if you tank their MS Office )

_ 2 You make the point continuously that people should look at and consider customising the script – that’s good, IMO
But
_2a) If I have understood correctly, the single line thing that sets it off, brings the thing in from GitHub?, - so that rather goes against encouraging people to look at and consider customising the script, ( unless they know all about GitHub…. Which I doubt… )

Trying to navigate around all your stuff is quite an effort at the best of times, I doubt a lot of people will remember that video, … or be able to find it…
_2c) - a combination of _2b) and _2c) really : Just a suggestion. Explain again the modifying of the script, possibly as part as a general walkthrough of the entire script. And explain again how to download the file and run it in the old way, That would encourage someone to check and tweak the script before using it.

Ultra-ltsc.ps1 script reduces 125 processes to 112 black viper to finally 103 ( Black Viper was something extra for the Services )

I am coming back here more than a year after the event as part of getting back up to date and reviewing the previous stuff, as for me personally the development history helps me to understand better the final more up to date stuff… Checking through the archive of the various places and repositories where Chris stores his stuff, … it occurs to me that the versions discussed here the minimal.ps1 was not available for very long... and the Ultra-ltsc.ps1 discussed in the main live stream ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER27pGt5wH0&lc= ) which this video summarises, never even got into this summary video. ,,, any particular reason for that?? …… sometimes things change as time goes on and that specific Ultra-ltsc script would break so many things and I took it down as even with warnings people would run it and then blame me for not having any of the needed features that were removed by the script.
I guess that is the crappy thing about getting bigger and more eyeballs, it means some of the more aggressive scripts can't really be done anymore because of the liability from doing so

• Removes Other Bloatware (Candy Crush, etc.)
• Fixes problems that other scripts causes (lock screen and personalization options restricted)
I will be updating this a lot, I don’t get all, so you might need to clean up a bit at the end, from start bar etc.

Some notes from some YourTube comment answers I made for this Video

I think Chris was at about the first or second attempt of his script when he posted this video.
He has changed it a few times since then., based partly on comments similar to yours.

Currently the script brings up a GUI with various options: installing software; making changes; reversing those changes; repairing changers made by other people’s scripts, etc., and so only specific software is installed if you click a button to do it.

I tend to prefer to install software myself. Sometime for example, I have a stable older version of a software, and I keep a copy of that exe file to re install from, if and when needed, and I prefer to choose when I update the software to the newest version, if at all. But the newest script at this time, allows you to choose if and what you install, so that’s cool.

I think the answer to that is two fold.
_1 Most likely not, unless your games might be typical known things that people regard as bloat ware, in which case the script may remove them. Best is to check the script and tweak it if necessary, as I try to explain in my a few replies below.
_2 Some other things that the script CAN do might effect your games. But the script currently brings up a GUI giving you button options both to do things and also to then undo what you did, in case anything causes problems.

This is an approximate list of the more recent videos where Chris has developed the Debloat script further. He is adding a lot more options to do other things as well as Debloating, and so just recently he tends to refer more often to the thing as a Tool rather than a Debloat script.

Now, regarding tweaking the script before you use it:
Chris does not maker it a too clear how to tweak the script in this video, and an explanation is difficult in the confines of the YouTube comments, especially as longer comments often get tanked as spam, either immediately or some time later.
But I will try an explanation, and I will number the replies so you can see if they all post. This is 1 of 10.

2 of 10. First forget about the one line to run command. Instead you need to go to the place where Chris has his script and download a Zip file containing some files including the main ps1 file that you need. I cannot unfortunately write here where it is, as that always triggers a YouTube comment to be deleted.

The download of the zip file method is also very similar to how Chris explained how to do it in a previous video, but note he was at that time using someone else’s script:

What you need to do is a similar Zip File download but from a similar place, but where Chris now has his script.

5 of 10. You need to unzip the downloaded zip file and note where you have chosen to put the unzipped master file containing all the files including the ps1 file. ( Actually, we are only interested in the ps1 file )
It does not matter where you put it, but you need to make a note of the path to it because its needed later in a command line.

6 of 10. What you then need to do is check through the script by opening it with a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad + +
Look through it and use a # to comment out any lines that you might think might remove anything you want

7 of 10. As example for me, I have always had to make sure that I comment out any lines in a Debloat code section containing
Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub
If I don’t do that, then my Microsoft office gets removed, which can be a disaster for me as its not easy the get the software re installed : ( despite having the original disc with a valid licence Key, Microsoft don’t accept the Key more than a few times to be used. ( To get the support from Microsoft to re install a valid licensed software they often charge you more money than the cost of new software.

8 of 10. Once you are happy with that ps1 file and have saved it then you need make a note of where you have the file, and then follow the steps given to run it, for example in this previous video.

But note that in that video, Chris breaks off at one point to download the zip file. You ignore that bit, because you would have done that already if you have done what I tried to explain in the last few comments

9 of 10. Just to make clear again what you do:
_ First get and unzip the zip folder containing the ps1 script file. Usually Chris has this folder named something like win10script-master, but he might change that now that windows 11 is here. ( His script is currently planned to work on either Windows 10 or windows 11 )
_ Open and check through the ps1 file with a text editor and remove or comment out any lin4es that might remove anything you don’t want removed.
_ Open the power shell window as Administrator
_ use some code lines something similar to those I will attempt to post in my last of these 10 comments

10 of 10. These are typical command lines. Your path will vary to where you have chosen to pot the unzipped master folder. Note that you don’t actually need to do the dir line. But that is a useful way to check that things are going as planned, as the dir command will list out all the files in the master folder, and you should see , amongst other things, the important .ps1 file that we need

Perhaps just one final note. The script from Chris is intended to work with both windows 10 and windows 11. So you may find that he changes the name of those files and folders as he continues to improve and develop it.

Lots of simple to answer questions left unanswered in comments of the videos. Attempts to answer them with a reply often results in the reply being deleted. Not a big issue. Just saying. There is not a lot of point in anyone commenting if they have a question.

I will take a guess that a lot Hate comments was caused by the last script or scripts. Chris seems to have gone quiet on it for almost a year, and I would not be surprised if he removed some comments in the meantime…

Chris next responded to comments to restore the small square action centre thing at the bottom right what the previous scripts removed. ( While he was at it he made further options to restore Cortana and to hide tray icons )
At the start he was very vocal about how he responds positively to comments, which further suggests he may be trying to gloss over the problems caused to people by his scripts

Yes, I think its normal and nothing to worry about.
I think its something becoming less meaningful as time goes on.
It’s rooted in the more historical and traditional way of when a lot of "normal" computer users had some things they were allowed to do controlled by an IT Administrator.
When some low level things are done, like those the script does, they likely would they been done previously by such an Administrator person. That Administrator person was then effectively trying to control the settings, so that is what that message is indicating.
Sometimes you might see that message or a similar one accompanying the greying out of some user options, all once again indicating that some "higher being" is trying to decide what settings you have.
For example, this was the case with earlier windows 10 version Update settings: Many setting options were duplicated in the direct way via normal user settings, (Advanced options dialog of Win 10 Pro), and in the so called Group Policy Editor, (the gpedit msc in the run window thing).
Once the gpedit method was used to adjust the settings then the same settings in the normal user update settings were greyed out and such a red warming was shown. However since Windows 120 version 2004, the some of the direct normal way options have been removed and you can only make the changes via the low level Group Policy Editor thing

Can anyone point me into the direction of a copy of the actual script used here?
I realise that the script has developed and advanced in the meantime, but its for learning purposes as I review the development of the script: I was away for a whule and am trying to catch up on the last years stuff.

A couple of suggestions. Regarding that, The script is relying on an internet connection for
_ 1 installing stuff
_ 2 and also for running the proprietary software from O&O which does the Debloating.
_ 3 the script itself is run somehow directly across the internet.
This limits its use to when you are online. I would suggest that is a bit unnecessary.

I will address those 3 points, if I may, in 3 replies below, since the YouTube anti-spam Bot is a bit aggressive just now, and tanks most long comments.

_ 1 OK you do need internet for installing. Fair enough. But possibly the check and possible download of the necessary winget stuff could somehow be done only of you choose any install option.

_ 2 many people here and elsewhere have commented that they feel uneasy about using the Debloat software from a company supported by Microsoft. There may be no cause for their concern, but as I write this I have seen no response to any of these comments regarding the "Microsoft Gold Partner" status of O&O. That script is mot open source, but is there not a script anywhere to do the same?

_3 There seems to be some contradictions. On the one hand it is encouraged examine, understand and possibly tweak the script before use. But you cant do that using the single command run way, ( single command run way = the script itself is run somehow directly across the internet.)
But you can download the ps1 script file, examine it and tweak it easily with any text editor, then run it with a few simple command lines.
I have tried in vain to explain this in detail to answer a few comments recently, but its always resulted in the reply being deleted.

He fools Microsoft into thinking the old pre Chrome version is there, and so it does not update.
But in more recent live stream videos he says it keeps coming back and he has not figured out how to stop it.
…Is this in (or will it be added to) your de-bloat script? - Working on a way but with version mismatches it's a bit harder to automate.

Microsoft Edge has taken over PDF viewer, and other default web tasks. Even when manually removing it will reinstall via windows updates.
Removing the Base Install
We first need to find the Edge install of the chromium edition in your Program Files.
Location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\
The setup program is what we need to uninstall edge. Go to the location above and drill down from the number and Install folder
Example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\92.0.902.62\Insta ller
Once you find your path you can now uninstall edge with the following command (Note: YOURS WILL BE DIFFERENT!)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\92.0.902.62\Insta ller\setup.exe --uninstall --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall
You can use this so it works for all numbers

Keep it from coming back… for now
You now need to add a registry entry. The following location
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Edg eUpdate
needs to be added with a DWORD called
DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium with a value of 1.
You can do this with a simply reg file. (stopedge.reg)

Run this to prevent edge reinstallation. Note: Microsoft will kill this workaround in the future and force edge on you
